International Museum Day 2024 celebrated

On 18th May 2024, The City Palace Museum in Udaipur celebrated International Museum Day with a series of enriching events, reflecting the International Council of Museums (ICOM) theme, ‘Museums for Education and Research’.

Maharaj Kumar Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Trustee of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, expressed profound sentiments about the enduring nature of museums, comparing them to trees that require nurturing over time. He emphasized that museums bring visitors face to face with the finest specimens of art, nature, and human creation, fostering education and research.

As one of the eminent museums for the history of the Mewar dynasty, the institution organized various activities aimed at enhancing educational and research opportunities for visitors and scholars, offering a cultural journey through the 5 C’s: Capture, Create, Craft, Connect, and Celebrate.

Visitors’ captured memories at a Heritage Photo Booth, creating lasting souvenirs that sparked curiosity about historical architecture. At Chowmukha in The Zenana Mahal, visitors engaged in traditional block printing, customizing bookmarks and gaining hands-on experience with an ancient art form, and learning about local craftsmanship techniques. The beauty of traditional rangoli artistry was showcased at Lakshmi Chowk, which provided insights into cultural expressions and their historical significance. Live artisan allowed visitors to connect with diverse craftsmanship inspired by the museum’s collections, promoting an appreciation for artisanal skills and their evolution. The day concluded with a musical serenade at Baadi Mahal, where traditional Rajasthani melodies offered a sensory exploration of regional music heritage, enriching the visitors’ understanding of cultural history.

The City Palace Museum, Udaipur tried to spread awareness about the museum’s importance and its role in education and research. Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar expressed his hopes for The City Palace Museum to remain a temple of inspiration, fostering learning and enjoyment for all and continuing to inspire and educate future generations as the center of excellence.
