The Ministry of Tourism under its Swadesh Darshan Scheme had identified Eco Tourism as one of the identified thematic circuits and sanctioned 06 projects under this theme, the details of which are annexed. Now, the Ministry has revamped the scheme as ‘Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0)’ to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations and has notified 55 destinations across the country for development.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism is actively promoting Eco-Tourism in the country and has taken multiple steps in this direction including the following:-
(i) To position India as a preferred destination for ecotourism globally, the Ministry of Tourism has formulated a National Strategy for Eco-Tourism.
(ii) The Ministry of Tourism organized an event ‘Eco-tourism as a vehicle for achieving Sustainable Development Goals’ in May 2023 on the sidelines of the 3rd Tourism Working Group meeting of G20 countries held at Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.
(iii) The Ministry of Tourism as part of its regular promotional activities also promotes various tourism destinations and products of the country including Eco-Tourism. These promotions are undertaken through various promotional platforms, social media handles, websites, events, etc.
