Mugdha Sinha Named New Director General of Tourism

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has announced a significant reshuffle of IAS officers, assigning fourteen officers to new roles at the Additional Secretary level.

Among these changes, Mugdha Sinha (IAS: 1999: RJ) has been appointed as the new Director General (Tourism) in the Ministry of Tourism, succeeding Manisha Saxena (IAS: 1996: AGMUT). Saxena, the former Director General of Tourism, has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. This new role for Saxena was made possible by the temporary upgrading of a vacant post of DS/Director in the Department, according to an official circular.

Saxena brings extensive experience to her new position, having served as Principal Secretary Tourism and Secretary (Tourism) in the Government of Mizoram. An alumnus of Lady Shriram College for Women in Delhi, she also held the position of Principal Secretary in the Government of NCT of Delhi until July 2022. During her tenure in the ministry, she oversaw various projects and represented the Ministry of Tourism at numerous industry and national events.

On the other hand, Sinha brings over twenty-five years of extensive experience in governance, policy making, and international trade negotiations to her new role at the Ministry of Tourism. She has previously worked in the Ministries of Textiles, Industry and Commerce both at the Centre and in Rajasthan, her cadre state. Sinha’s experience also includes roles in Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, and Science and Technology. Recently, she served as the joint secretary in the Ministry of Culture.
