Jodhpur Residents Sway to Folk Tunes, Handicrafts Festival Echoes with Laughter

The Western Rajasthan Industry & Handicrafts Festival, being held at Ramlila Maidan (Ravan ka Chabutra) in the city, witnessed a colourful blend of folk culture and humour on Sunday evening. Powerful performances by internationally renowned Langa and Kalbelia artists enthralled the audience with soulful folk tunes, while popular stand-up comedian Jaspreet Singh filled the venue with peals of laughter through his engaging comedy.

The programme began with the lighting of the lamp by senior industrialists Vinod Bhatia and Hansraj Baheti. On the occasion, Provincial President Balkishan Sankhla, Cultural In-charge Rakesh Srivastava, Abhinav Parihar and Ankur Agrawal welcomed and felicitated the guests.

Renowned folk artist Mubarak Khan Langa and his troupe opened the evening with a Ganesh Vandana, followed by a melodious rendition of the iconic Rajasthani folk song Kesariya Balam, creating a soulful ambience. The Langa artists further showcased the richness of folk music traditions through popular songs such as Gorbandh, Ladli Luma Jhuma and Hichki. This was followed by captivating performances by Kalbelia dancers, who enthralled the audience with vibrant presentations of Kaliyo Kud Padiyo Mela Mein and other traditional folk dances. Their graceful movements and expressive performances left the audience spellbound.

Popular stand-up comedian Jaspreet Singh tickled the audience with his witty observations on relationships, family life and social situations, entertaining people of all age groups. Earlier, Sikandar Khan also brought hearty laughter through his humorous storytelling. The programme was compered by Pramod Singhal.
