Chief Executive Officer of Sambhar Lake Management Committee, Mrs. Monali Sen said that Sambhar Lake has earned the state a special recognition as the highest salt producing lake in the country and a Ramsar site. He said that since Sambhar Lake is not only a tourist area in the state but is also a major part of the state’s economy, work will have to be done with commitment on every aspect for the conservation and promotion of Sambhar Lake.
Smt. Monali Sen was presiding over the third meeting of the Sambhar Lake Management Committee at the Secretariat on Wednesday. During the second meeting, while reviewing the progress of the agenda items, he said that by establishing coordination with the local administration and local residents to remove encroachment from the lake area, Sambhar Lake should be freed from encroachment soon so that the original form of Sambhar Lake can be restored. Can be saved and the lake area can be completely pollution free. During this, he discussed in detail the current situation of encroachment in the lake with the officials present.
During the meeting, an analysis of the groundwater level of Sambhar Lake for the last one year was presented by the Ground Water Department. Also, the hydrological study conducted on Sambhar Lake was discussed in detail. Since Sambhar Lake is listed on the world stage as a Ramsar site of international importance. The executive body passed the decision to notify Sambhar Lake under the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Act, 2017 through a public hearing in the presence of all concerned departments.
