Pal Haveli-True Traveller’s Dream

Pal Haveli is a true traveller’s dream who feasts on grandeur, indulgence and heritage. As soon you enter the towering Pal Haveli, the gigantic arched door ushers the guests into a resplendent courtyard sheltered by hundred years old Neem tree from where the city noises fall silent and time takes a turn towards history. The living museum of Jodhpur, today with 21 rooms and suites, Pal Haveli breathes the legacy of a prodigious family cherished each day, history that breathes legendary stories from each of its courtyards and rooms, and history that touches the souls of its visitors.

When the whole world was fascinated by the royal abodes of Kings and Queens, Thakurs of Pal, the scions of Thakur Umaid Karan Ji opened their mansion for the guests travelling to Rajasthan.  Set under the gaze of mighty Mehrangarh Fort, the home of three generations; Pal Haveli, in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, presents a real-life experience lived by the nobles, and the first officials of the Royal Court to the guests.

Established by Rao Jodha of the Rathore Clan of Rajputs in 1459 AD, the erstwhile princely state of Jodhpur, earlier known as Marwar, today, speaks volumes about the rich heritage and glorious past of India. The second-largest city of Rajasthan is dotted with the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, which was the abode of Rathores, protected and maintained by their lineage with pride and honour. Rathores were holding the hierarchical patriarchy, which was served by the nobles and thakurs as their first officials who enjoyed highest honour and respect in the government. One of the noble lineages of the Thakurs of Pal, resided in Pal Haveli, poised atop 100 steps from the Clock Tower of Jodhpur.

Post-independence, when the Royal patronage was losing its sovereignty, when the thikanas were selling their mansions for survival and the government was seizing monarchial assets, the Thakurs of Pal embarked on a glorious journey to protect and restore the grandeur of Pal Haveli, the only living haveli among the 700 havelis of Jodhpur. When it was hard to protect the transcendent treasures of the haveli- the collection of guns, vintage utensils, paintings artifacts and the lifestyle of 17 generations were safeguarded and preserved by the successors. Dating back to more than two hundred years, this haveli was restored securing the architectural structure intact by the noble family of Thakur Umaid Karan Ji. Painstakingly restored haveli embodies the ethos of the past. The restoration pays attention to the milieu and aesthetic of the time in which it was constructed. There are rooms with a wooden roof, decorative windows, old lamps and lots of little details specific to the period in which it was built. The imposing Pal Haveli was opened for the guests in the year 2005 with 4 rooms after the restoration of 2 years.
